Building a NASA robot

Bridget got chosen to be trained at the Goddard Center to teach NASA curriculum.  Now we all get to benefit from her passion for science!  The first meeting of our NASA class had the kids thinking about how scientist have to program a lander to navigate terrain when there is a time lapse in communication.  The teams had to map out their "terrain."  Then they had to write out instructions for their "lander" to navigate the course.  Each kids got to be the lander and give the instructions.  They quickly found out that they needed a uniform unit of measurement to tell the lander how far to go, and that they needed to know when the lander had completed each step of directions.  It was harder than it seemed!

I love the NASA model that has the kids imagine, plan, take measurements, try it out, rethink, try it out again, rethink, try it out again.  It's a great curriculum and I'm so thankful Bridget is the one to do it!
